Many chances but no goals;Chievo-Genoa 0-0

Floro Flores made his debut in his new Rossoblu shirt with number 83

Again a goalless draw today. Genoa started with Floro Flores in the line-up, but it was clear that the ex-striker of Udinese did not play much the last time. The biggest chances were missed by Marco Rossi and Bosko Jankovic, while Chievo played the last 22 minutes with 10 players after the red card of Cesar. Genoa is now on the 14th position in the standings. Next Sunday we play against Parma in Luigi Ferraris.

No Dainelli, No party: Genoa-Udinese 2-4

The Genoa-players celebrate the goal of Milanetto against Udinese

Finally the goals returned in Luigi Ferraris. Genoa played a good match for 75 minutes, especially offensively. The defense without Dainelli (and the sold Ranocchia) did not show that they were the best defense of Serie A till today. Goalkeeper Eduardo failed at the second and fourth goal and Chico at the first goal. The goals of Genoa were scored by Omar Milanetto (1-1 in the 45th minute) and Mattia Destro (2-2 in the 58th minute).

Here the highlights of this spectacular match:

Coppa: Inter-Genoa 3-2; 2 transfers failed

Housinne Kharja realizes the penalty (2-1) and brings Genoa back in the match

Tonight Genoa lost 3-2 in San Siro against Inter in the 1/8 finals of Coppa Italia. The 2 goals were scored by Kharja (penalty) and Sculli, both in the 2nd half in which Genoa played a lot better than before the break. Man of the match was Samuel Eto’o who scored twice before halftime. Our ex-defender Andrea Ranocchia should be sent off with a red card after his irregular stop of Rudolf. Besides the penalty it also should be red.

striker Mauro Boselli arrived this afternoon at Genova-airport

Yesterday-evening it was big news everywhere in the world: Genoa bought two Argentinian strikers with the name Mauro: Boselli and Formica. Now 24 hours later both transfers failed in the last minute. Formica yesterday already left the trainingscamp of Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina and was on his way to the airport to fly to Genova when at the last minute the transfer failed because Genoa wanted to pay the transfersum after the medical test and Newell’s wanted Genoa to pay before Formica left Argentina. At the same time Genoa agreed with Wigan (Premier League, England) of hirering striker Mauro Boselli the rest of this season with an option to buy him this summer. This afternoon Boselli already arrived in Genova to have his medical test and to sign the contract to be in time to play against Udinese next Sunday. Unfortunately Boselli did not pass the medical test, so also this transfer failed at the last minute. Hopefully the new striker(s) will arrive soon, because in 4 days we play against Udinese.

Napolitan friends beat Genoa: 0-1, Hamsik

Hamsik scores the only goal in Luigi Ferraris (11-12-2010)

Of course it is never good to lose a match in your own stadium, but if you have to it is better to give the points to your friends than your rivals. Saturday Genoa played in Luigi Ferraris against Napoli, which is a very strong team this season. Mr. Ballardini started with 5 midfieldplayers including 3 playmakers: Veloso, Kharja and Milanetto. Our topscorer Luca Toni was assisted by Palladino. In the first half Napoli was the best team and in the 25th minute Hamsik headed the openinggoal behind Rubinho: 0-1. In the second half Genoa played a lot better with Mesto and Rudolf instead of Veloso and Palladino in the team. Our team created some chances (Mesto, Destro) and deserved at least 1 penalty (hands of Maggio), but goalkeeper De Sanctis kept his goal clean: 0-1. Now we all count the days till the next match: Sunday 19th December 20.45 hours …. the derby !!

Genoa scores 3 goals in 2nd half in Lecce 1-3

[youtube UXnhfp1vyY8]

Genoa only scored 2 goals in the last 6 matches and was 1-0 down at halftime in Lecce, so we all feared for a defeat unless the fact that Genoa was the less bad team in the field during the first half. In the 2nd half we saw a completely different Genoa. In the 55th minute, just after Di Michele missed a big chance to double the score, Luca Toni headed a corner of Miguel Veloso behind the goalkeeper of Lecce: 1-1

Luca Toni celebrates the equalizer in Lecce: 1-1

In the 76th minute Andrea Ranocchia headed a free-kick of Veloso in the goal of Rosati: 1-2. Of course Lecce tried to score the equalizer in the last 15 minutes of the match, but the final goal was scored by our captain: Marco Rossi after a good combination of Rudolf and Destro: 1-3. Genoa now is 9th in the standings with 21 points in 15 matches.

Miguel Veloso and our ex-striker Rubén Olivera

The next match is planned Saturday 11th December at 20.45 hours in Luigi Ferraris against our Napolitan-brothers buth a strike of the players in Serie A probably will cancell this match.

Lot of snow but no goals: Brescia-Genoa 0-0

Brescia-Genoa 0-0, 28-11-2010

Good football was not possible in the snow of Brescia. In the first half both teams had some real chances to score. Giandomenico Mesto saved us once by kicking the ball away just before the goal-line. In the second half both teams wrestled against the snow which coloured the field completely white. The draw was the most honest result to both teams, unfortunately for the fans in the stadium it was a draw without goals.

Unlucky Genoa (2x crossbar) lost vs Juve: 0-2

The protest of Gradinata Nord against the start of the match at 12.30 hours

Unless the unusual Italian time of 12.30 hours 30.000 fans came to Luigi Ferraris to see the match between Genoa and Juventus. After Genoa missed the first big chance it was our goalkeeper Eduardo who headed the ball very unlucky in his own goal: 0-1. For a few minutes Genoa was out of the match and Krasic immediately took his chance: 0-2. As every Italian topteam from this moment Juventus only defended the advantage. Genoa hit twice the crossbar by Criscito before haltime and Kharje after the tea, but the score did not change anymore: Genoa-Juventus: 0-2.

Wednesday 24th November Genoa beat Vicenza (Serie B) in the Coppa Italia. Just as in the previous round against Grosseto it was Luca Toni who scored the equalizer just before the 90th minute and 2-1 immedialtely after the start of the extra time. A few minutes later also Mattia Destro scored 3-1 and the game was over. In the next round Genoa plays against Inter.

Genoa beats Bologna by goal Milanetto: 1-0

Omar Milanetto and Marco Rossi, 2 of our Genoani of the year

Tonight Genoa has beaten Bologna by 1-0. The only goal was scored in the 81st minute by Omar Milanetto who returned in the team after his squalification against Palermo. In the stadium were lot of flags to thank our fired but of course still loved coach Mr. Gian Piero Gasperini, who brought us back in Serie A and Europe.

Gradinata Nord thanks Gian Piero Gasperini

Our new coach Davide Ballardini had playmakers Veloso and Milanetto back in the line-up, while the 3rd playmaker Kharja was on the bench. Till finally the goal of Milanetto arrived in the 81st minute there was only 1 team in the field: Genoa. Many changes were missed and sometimes we were also unlucky for instance with the free-kick of Veloso on the crossbar. After the goal of Omar also Bologna wanted to attack and tried to score the equalizer but luckely they didn’t succeed. With 14 points in 11 matches we are back in the middle of the standings.

Inter steels 3 points in Luigi Ferraris: 0-1

Eduardo knows he made a big mistake against Inter

With a goal in the 48th and last minute of the 1st half Inter did win the topmatch in Luigi Ferraris. Our goalkeeper Eduardo was guilty of this bouncing ball of Muntari that never might have finished behind him in the goal. In the 2nd half Genoa attacked all 52 minutes and Inter only defended and spoiled time with many fake-injuries. Criscito, Toni and substitute Boakye were close to the equalizer but at the end the only thing Genoa got were the compliments.

Dario Dainelli tries to stop Dutch Wesley Sneijder

With 7 injuries (central-midfielders Kharja and Veloso; strikers: Palacio, Jankovic, Rudolf, Palladino, Sculli) and a 0-5 defeat last year the chances of Genoa against Inter seemed very little. In the field however the teams were equal with big chances in the first half to Eto’o and Rossi. The goal of Muntari was not even a little chance. In the 2nd half Inter only defended the 0-1 score. Let’s hope that at least one of the central-midfielders Kharja or Veloso can play next Sunday-evening in Palermo because Omar Milanetto got his 4th yellow card against Inter and will be squalified this week.

Rossi brings Genoa 3 points against Catania

Marco Rossi celebrates his goal against Catania in front of the little flag of Genoa Club Amsterdam

Because of the many injuries in midfield Mr. Gasperini had to trust in his “old soldiers” Marco Rossi and Omar Milanetto. As usual the experienced midfielders helped their coach and played a good match, just like Dainelli and Criscito. In the first half Catania was the most dangerous team, but in the 2nd half it surely was Genoa that deserved the victory. A perfect cross of Rafinha in the 68th minute reached Marco Rossi who scored with a difficult shot: 1-0

Marco Rossi scores against Catania

In the last 20 minuts Genoa had several chances to double the score and Eduardo saved Genoa ones, but at the end everybody had the same opinion: Genoa deserved the 3 points and is back where we belong: at the left side of the standings.
