Atalanta  - Genoa  2-0

Also the last match of the season ended with a defeat of 2-0. In the first 34 matches of the season Genoa only played bad against Siena at home (1-3), the last 4 matches are a different story. In the match against Atalanta the boys of Mr. Gasperini deserved at least a draw, but after 2 red cards we lost the match in the 93rd minute. Because Marco Borriello did not score since Genoa-Torino he ended third on the topscorerslist with 19 goals behind Del Piero and Trezeguet. Genoano of the match: Alessandro Lucarelli.

Genoa  - Lazio  0-2

After 3 defeats we can say that the team of Genoa needs pressure to play good. In the very attractive but difficult 3-4-3 system all players must do their defensive and tactical job, otherwise you can lose against every other team. Against Lazio the team of Mr. Gasperini played (corners: 9-1) but the team of Rome was much more dangerous with their counters. Everybody expected Borriello in the line-up so he could probably score his 20th goal of the season, but Figueroa started the match that was decided by Pandev and Rocchi in the first half. Parma  - Genoa  1-0

All the Genoa-players wanted Borriello to score, so they did not shoot themselves on the Parma-goal even if they were in a lot better position as Borriello. The match was decided by a goal of Cristiano Lucarelli, the brother of our Alessandro. Genoano of the match: Wilson, finally he could show his capacities after his arrival in January and many injuries.

Genoa  - Empoli  0-1

The team of Gasperini was less inspired, which can not be said about Empoli that, of course, does everything to stay in Serie A. Genoa missed Bovo and De Rosa, so our best player Konko had to play in defense the first half and also after the injury of Lucarelli early in the second half. The short time Konko played in midfield was the best period of Genoa, but Borriello and the other strikers were not lucky today. Genoano of the match: Konko.

Siena  - Genoa  0-1

Including the injury time Genoa did play more then an hour after the red card of Gaetano de Rosa with 10 against 11, but with the support of the 4.000 Genoa-fans the team defended fantastic the 0-1 of Konko in the 24th minute. The 3 points brings us on 48 and the distance to number 7 Udinese is only 3 points now, with 4 playrounds to go. Genoa  - Torino  3-0

A fantastic match that should be decided at halftime, but as often this season the goals came in the second half after Fabiano was substituted by Marco di Vaio who scored the first goal. Ten minutes later Marco Borriello put his 19th goal of the season in the net and in the 69th minute Giuseppe Sculli made the 3-0. Because both Sampdoria and Udinese lost their match the European dream of Genoa is not over yet. Genoano of the match: Cesare Bovo.

A.S. Roma  - Genoa  3-2

In the first 20 minutes Genoa played nervous and clearly missed playmaker Omar Milanetto. After this period Roma had the lead by 2-0 and thought the match was over. Absolutely wrong if you play against offensive thinking Mr. Gasperini. After halftime Genoa scored twice (Rossi and Leon) in a minute and Roma was afraid they lost the Italian title. Luckely for them they got help of referee Banti who whistled only in 1 direction: against Genoa. Ten minutes before the end Roma got a penalty after a stupide attack of Borriello on the legs of Taddei which De Rossi scored: 3-2. An unfair result but we can be proud of our team. Genoano of the match: Leon.

Genoa  - Reggina  2-0

Congratulations to all Genoa-fans all over the world. With the victory against Reggina we now have 42 points in the standings which means we are save and play also next year in Serie A. It was an open match with two teams that wanted to score and thought offensive. In the second half Genoa decided the match by goals of Marco Borriello (his 18th this season which makes him again the only topscorer in Serie A) in the 59th minute and Marco Rossi in the 92nd minute. It was the first Serie A goal in the red and blue shirt of Genoano of the match Marco Rossi in his 100th Serie A match.

Palermo  - Genoa  2-3

Just like the homematch (3-3) a very attractive and spectacular match of 2 teams that both want to attack. Genoa booked the 4th away-victory after Napoli (1-2), Lazio (1-2) and Udinese (3-5). Referee Tagliavento helped Palermo by giving them an undeserved penalty that was scored by Amauri (1-0), but the revanche of Genoa was fantastic. Goals of Figueroa before halftime and Milanetto + Konko in the second half changed the score into 1-3. In the last second of the match Amauri scored the last goal, but there was not even time left to take the kickoff so the victory never was in danger. Genoano of the match: Lucho Figueroa.

Genoa  - Inter  1-1

Genoa was the boss in the field with ball-possession of 67% and 10 corners against 4 of Inter. Despite all of this we all were very happy that 5 minutes before the end Borriello scored the equalizer. Inter has a very good and experienced defense, so it is hard to score against them. However a draw against Inter is a result we all agreed with before the match started. Fiorentina  - Genoa  3-1

Sometimes the result doesn’t tells the whole truth. Genoa played a very good match, but Fiorentina goalkeeper Frey (some incredible saves), starplayer Mutu (fantastic 2nd goal) and referee Ayroldi (shut his eyes when Santana scored the first goal in offside-position and refused to give Genoa at least 1 penalty) kept the 3 points in Florence. The goal of Genoa was scored by youngster Matias Masiero who played his first match with Genoa. Leon got his 4th yellow card, so he can not play against Inter. Genoano of the match: ex-Fiorentina player Marco Rossi who played very good and not only against 11 players, but also against 28.000 Viola-tifosi that whistled every time our captain touched the ball.

Genoa  - Juventus  0-2

A match with very different periods. In the first 25 minutes Genoa was the strongest team in the field, but then Grygera scored with a goal we have never seen before by him unless the fact he played 4 years here in Amsterdam. Within 7 minutes Juventus doubled the score after (again) Grygera passed the ball towards Trezeguet who scored his 16th goal (just like Borriello) of the season: 0-2. In the second half Genoa was again the best team in the field, but besides the ball on the post of Borriello (great save of Buffon who pushed the ball against the post) and a big chance of Figueroa in the last second the victory of Juventus never was in danger. Cagliari  - Genoa  2-1

Sometimes a defeat already is in the air, days before the match. After the victories against Udinese and Napoli and the punishment on Friday of 3 points in the standings of Cagliari, our defeat was in the air. Unless this feeling the Rossoblu started very good and after 15 minutes Alessandro Lucarelli scored the first goal out of a perfect cross of Fabiano. In the 29th minute Criscito headed a corner at the crossbar and 20 seconds later Acquafresca shot the ball in the net behind Rubinho. Only 30 seconds before halftime again Acquafresca headed the ball on the post, but with his back Rubinho made it a goal: 2-1. In the second half Genoa tried to score the equalizer but we hardly never came close. Genoano of the match: the returned captain Marco Rossi.

Genoa  - Napoli  2-0

Again a victory of Genoa and again Sculli (after 41 minutes) and Borriello (penalty in 75th minute) scored the goals. Genoa is now on the shared 7th place with Sampdoria, just 1 point behind number 6 Udinese. Almost 27.000 tifosi (1000 Napolitani) watched this match on wednesday-evening in Luigi Ferraris. Udinese  - Genoa  3-5

Before the match we all hoped to see a spectacular match between two offensive teams. The game was even better as we could hope with 8 goals. In the defense Genoa made some errors which gave Udinese 2 penalties (and goals) but offensive the Rossoblu played football at a very high level. Just as in the homematch Marco Borriello scored a hattrick, while Leon and Sculli scored before halftime the other 2 Genoa-goals. Genoa is now on the 8th position in the standings, just outside zone Uefa-cup. Genoano of the match: Marco Borriello with 15 goals topscorer of Serie A.

Genoa  - Sampdoria  0-1 

Before the match it was the most awful thinking: losing the derby. Now that we lost the derby it’s not so heavy as it seemed. The young inexperienced team of Genoa deserved a draw, but because of the unnecessary 2nd yellow card of Danilo and the fact referee Rizzoli refused to send very irritating Ca$$aNO to the dressingroom we lost only 3 minutes before the end. At the end we clapped our hands to thank the Genoa-team. Genoano of the match: Konko, let’s hope the big teams in Europe never see the video of this match because our youngster is ready to play Champions League.

Livorno  - Genoa  1-1

Again a good match of Genoa, this time with a happy end. After 15 minutes Livorno’s striker Tavano scored with a fantastic shot the first goal of the match, at the moment Genoa already was the boss in the field. After 28 minutes Mr. Gasperini changed the tactics by bringing Di Vaio in the field in stead of Bovo. Unless the red card of Santos (two yellow cards) it was Marco di Vaio that put the 1-1 final score on the board. Genoano of the match: Marco di Vaio.

Genoa  - Catania  2-1

After weeks of talking about it, this time mr. Gasperini started with the 2 strikers Borriello and Figueroa together in the team. It was a good decision of our coach because within 14 minutes Genoa took the lead by the first Italian goal of Danilo. Despite many chances Genoa failed to double the score and after 59 minutes we were very unlucky when Bovo headed the ball behind Alessio Scarpi: 1-1. In the last half an hour Genoa did everything to win and we succeeded when a shot of Borriello was stopped by the hands of a Catania-defender; the penalty was realized by Borriello: 2-1. Genoano of the match: Marco Rossi.

A.C. Milan  - Genoa  2-0

The tactics of Mr. Gasperini helped us till the last 21 minutes and gave Borriello (twice) and Sculli (ones) the opportunity to open the score in San Siro. In the 69th minute Pato scored the opening-goal (after Seedorf pushed Fabiano ?!) and 1 minute later our goalkeeper Rubinho got a red card because of hands outside the penaltyarea. The match was over and only for the statistics Pato doubled the score. Genoano of the match: Rubinho.

Genoa  - Atalanta Bergamo  2-1

Just as in the beginning of the championship our 3rd victory in a row. To be true a draw would be a more honest result, but this time Genoa was lucky. Atalanta hit the post twice, the crossbar once and their second goal was annulated and 30 seconds later Borriello scored the equalizer. In the 84th minute Figueroa headed the winning goal in front of Gradinata Nord and brought Genoa on the 6th position in the standings. Lazio  - Genoa  1-2

Again a victory, the second outside Genova. The return of Criscito gave some extra defensive power, especially in the air. Unfortunately Robinho did not had his best day, so Lazio scored first but in the second half Genoa played an almost perfect match with 2 goals of Borriello both after an action by Milanetto. The 1000 Genoa-fans celebrated the first victory against Lazio in Stadio Olimpico since 49 years and 2 days. Genoani of the match: Omar Milanetto and Marco Borriello.

Genoa  - Parma  1-0

After 9 matches (4 draws, 5 defeats) finally a victory of the Gasperini boys. Borriello scored the only goal by penalty after Paci could only stop our topscorer by hanging on his shirt. The defense of Genoa with Masiello, De Rosa and Santos played a perfect match, this time also in the air. With this victory Genoa is in the middel of the standings, so players, staff and supporters all can have a pleasant Christmas after a fantastic 2007! Genoano of the match: Konko.

Empoli  - Genoa  1-1

Mr. Gasperini changed the system from 3-4-3 in 4-4-1-1, but it didn’t work. At half time Genoa was 1-0 down, so Leon, Figueroa and Milanetto came into the field in the second half to change the system into 4-2-4. After the referee refused to give Juric a penalty, finally in the 87th minute Masiello scored the equalizer. Genoano of the match: Santos, defender in the first half, central-forward in the 2nd half and defender again after the goal of Masiello.

Genoa  - Siena   1-3

The worst match of Genoa this season. During the first 23 minutes Siena scored three times and decided the match. In the last minute Luciano Figueroa scored his first Genoa-goal, which was the only positive thing in this horrible match. Genoano of the match: Marco Borriello.

Torino  - Genoa  1-1

Finally a good match of Genoa that doesn’t end with empty hands. After a better Torino in the first half, it was substitute Leon that gave our team the right spirit in the second part. Borriello scored his 7th goal after a perfect combination of Di Vaio and Fabiano. After all a draw was the right result against our friends of Torino. Genoano of the match: Alessio Scarpi.

Genoa  - Roma  0-1

Genoa played a good match, but a little misfortune (Paro hit the post and a regular goal of Di Vaio was annulated) and some experience (international-player Do Rossi blocked Borriello, so other international Panucci could easily score the winning goal in the 90th minute) costed us 1 or 3 points. At the end, we played well but we lost by 1-0 and left the field with 5 yellow cards (4 very dubious) and 3 banned players for next week. Mille grazie referee Ro(ma)setti. Reggina  - Genoa  2-0

After the referee failed to give Genoa a penalty it was Nicola Amaruso that gave Reggina the lead. The break-point of the match was the 79th minute. Marco di Vaio headed the ball on the post and in the same minute Joelson scored with his head by a quick counter of Reggina: 2-0. Genoa surely missed Marco Borriello because Lucho Figueroa was not 100% topfit yet to start the match in the line-up. Genoano of the match: Marco di Vaio.

Genoa  - Palermo  3-3

Unless the score in corners (12-2) and ball possession (65%-35%) both teams got 1 point at the end of the match. The last 15 minutes of the 1st half and the complete 2nd half Genoa played very, very good but again a few defensive errors helped our opponent. Because of a injury Cesare Bovo had to leave the field, while De Rosa was as number 19 outside the team. From this moment Genoa had problems with the length in the defense which was - together with Juric during the last goal who forgot to step out the defense, to put all the players of Palermo off-side - the reason of the 2nd and 3rd goal of Palermo. Inter  - Genoa  4-1

The result doesn’t compare with the match. Genoa offensively played a good match against maybe the best team in Europe at the moment with a goal of Konko, a bal on the crossbar of Leon and a header of De Rosa a few inches along the goal. This match the problems were the defensive errors. As mentioned we could have scored 3 times, but Inter 6 or 7 times. Genoano of the match: Luciano Figueroa (great return)

Genoa  - Fiorentina  0-0

Just like last week Genoa played a good match but did not succeeded to score a goal. This time Mr. Gasperini started with Leon in the line-up and our striker from Honduras indeed was the most dangerous player. Just like last week against Juventus, also this match Giuseppe Sculli was the player with the biggest chance. Last week Buffon saved the shot of our striker, this time it was goalkeeper Frey that stopped him. Genoano of the match: Matteo Paro.

Juventus  - Genoa   1-0

Both teams played very good in defense, but unfortunately in the offensive-part not very powerful. Genoa missed the unpredictable actions of Leon in the first 53 minutes of the game and Borriello and Di Vaio did not had their special day. One extra talented action of Nedved and Del Piero decided the game. It was one of the less positive actions of the arrogant couple. Del Piero was substituted by coach Ranieri after 77 minutes and Pavel Nedved got his almost usual red card against Genoa when he in the last minute tried to break both legs of Milanetto and the backside of Konko. Genoano of the match: Marco Rossi, our captain drove Pavel Nedved to crazynes.

Genoa  - Cagliari   2-0

Genoa played an almost perfect match. Our goalkeeper Rubinho was most of the time an unemployed spectator, while his colleague Fortin of Cagliari was very bussy to keep the zero on the scoreboard. The tactical system of coach Gasperini once again was perfect, so it was absolutely right to give him our trophy as “Genoano of the year” the day before the match. In front of Gradinata Sud in the second half both Marco’s (Borriello and Di Vaio) scored. With this 3rd victory in a row Genoa now is on the fifth position in the standings. Napoli  - Genoa  1-2

Our first victory outside Marassi, and after 3 matches we are still unbeaten in away-games. In the empty stadium maybe a draw was the best result, but the offensive thinking of Mr. Gasperini gives us sometimes something extra. After 12 minutes Paolo Cannavaro slide a cross of Leon in his own goal, feared as he was for Borriello just behind him. In the beginning of the second half Domizzi scored the equalizer behind Scarpi with a doubtful penalty. In the 89th minute substitute Sculli scored the winning goal with his head out of a cross of Borriello. Genoano of the match: Mr. Gasperini.

Genoa   - Udinese  3-2

In a fantastic match Genoa booked the first victory this season. Heroe of the match was Marco Borriello who scored all 3 Rossoblu goals. The first one with a volley after a free-kick of Juric, the second goal with his head out of a corner and the third goal from the penalty-spot. Almost the complete second half Genoa played with 10 players because referee Ciampi made a very big mistake to send Rubinho with a red card to the dressingroom because he should have touched the ball with his hands outside the penaltyarea. At first Rubinho touched the ball inside the 16 meters-area and behind Rubinho were still 3 Genoa-defenders so he wasn’t the last man and only risked a yellow card. A big mistake, but luckely also with 10 players we could win the match. Genoa is now with 6 points together with Milan, Lazio and Parma on the 9th place in the league-tables, just outside Uefa-cup zone. Genoano of the match: Marco Borriello.

Sampdoria  - Genoa  0-0

The first derby in Serie A after 12 years ended without goals: 0-0. Genoa did not play in their usual 3-4-3 system but a little more defensive in a 3-5-2 system with only 2 strikers: Borriello and Di Vaio. It was a match without many chances to score a goal. Finally the draw was the most right result to both teams. Genoano of the match: Marco Rossi.

Genoa  - Livorno  1-1

Before the match we all hoped and tought that it would be possible to beat Livorno. Now after the match we can say it was indeed possible. Already after 10 minutes Genoa should take the lead, but Milanetto shoot the penalty at the crossbar. As often the referee also gave a penalty to the other team and Tavano scored easily: 0-1. After 360 seconds Genoa already scored the equalizer. A cross of Marco Rossi on the head of Marco Borriello and substitute goalkeeper of the Italian national team Amelia was without any change: 1-1.  After the goal Genoa did everything to win the match as you can see on the number of corners (15-3), but in the last minute after Vidigal (Livorno) and Juric (Genoa) got their second yellow-card it was goalkeeper Rubinho that saved the point for Genoa. Catania  - Genoa  0-0

A good result of Genoa in a difficult away-match far away from home. After all a draw was the most right result, but it takes a while before we can forget the bal on the post of Papa Waigo in the 45th minute and the very dubious annulated goal of Danilo in the 84th minute. Four Genoa-players were booked by referee Rizzoli: Bega, Lucarelli, Danilo and Marco Rossi. Genoano of the match: Gaetano “the wall” de Rosa.

Genoa  - A.C. Milan  0-3

Trainer Gasperini changed the aspected team on 3 places: De Rosa, Rossi and Fabiano were changed in the line-up by Dos Santos, Konko and Juric. As usual Genoa played in the 3-4-3 tactics and very offensive. Against Milan it was too offensive. During 90 minutes Genoa had more ball-possesion, but Milan was more dangerouse and more experienced. After Genoa failed to score the opening goal, in the same minute Ambrosini headed the first goal for Milan in the 21st minute: 0-1. Just before half-time Kaka decided the match by scoring 0-2 by counter and 0-3 by a very discutable penalty. 

In the second half Milan controlled the match and let Genoa play on the midfield. The rossoblu team had some chances to score the honourfull 3-1 but Dida was very good. Genoano of the match: Francesco Bega.
