Atalanta  versus Genoa 

Sunday 18th May 15.00 hours

This last playround of the Serie A is full of important games like Parma-Inter and Catania-Roma to find out which team will be Italian Champion and which team(s) relegate to Serie B with Livorno and probably Empoli. Also Fiorentina and Milan has to play an important match to reach Champions League. Atalanta and Genoa can play a friendly match with hopefully a lot of goals by Marco Borriello to become topscorer of Serie A in the season 2007-2008 and to stay 8th or 9th in the standings.

Genoa  versus Lazio

Sunday 11th May 15.00 hours

 

After Inter and Roma did win the semi-finals of Coppa Italia position number 8 in the standings means qualification to Intertoto. At the moment Genoa is on the 8th position and despite the fact that Mr. Preziosi don’t want to play in Intertoto, Mr. Gasperini and the players still hope they can play in Europe this summer. They decided to talk about it after the season and of course only if Genoa ends the season on the 8th position. To stay on the 8th position Genoa has to beat Lazio with hopefully to the fantastic fans many goals, including some of Borriello to make him topscorer of Serie A in the unforgettable season 2007-2008.

Parma  versus Genoa 

Sunday 4th May 15.00 hours

Just like last week Genoa plays against an opponent that fights against relegation. After this match Parma plays the last 2 against Fiorentina and Inter, so the Emiliani have to win against Genoa to have a chance to stay in Serie A. Genoa misses 4 players against Parma: the longtime injured Paro and Masiero and the banned Fabiano and Di Vaio. The last weeks Marco Borriello did not score, while Trezeguet and Del Piero were succesfull, so to stay topscorer of Serie A Super Marco has to score against Parma.

Genoa  versus Empoli

Sunday 27th April 15.00 hours

On the road to Europe we need to win this match. Hopefully Santos is healthy again to play in defense because otherwise we only have 2 real defenders: Lucarelli and Criscito, while Bovo and De Rosa are banned because of their cards last week in Siena. The match against Empoli also can be good to Marco Borriello to score his 20th goal this season.

Siena  versus Genoa  

Sunday 20th April 15.00 hours

The homematch in Luigi Ferraris was the most disappointing match of this season which ended in a 1-3 victory of Siena. Time to have revanche, also to keep the European dream alive. So far this season Genoa scored only 9 goals in the first half of the matches and 34 in the second half, which means we have a perfect condition. Maybe this physical advantage can be very important at the end of the season. With Siena play 2 players that are still owned by Genoa: Manuel Coppola (ex- Genoano of the year) and Fernando Forestieri (only 18 years old).

Genoa  versus Torino  

Sunday 13th April 15.00 hours

A victory against our friends of Torino means probably that playing in Serie A is officialy sure next year. It also means that certainly ex-Sampdoria trainer Novellino will be fired with Torino. These two points and the fact that we want Marco Borriello to be topscorer of Serie A this season are the main reasons to beat our friends of Torino that in the last 5 matches after Sunday surely have to safe their partnership in Serie A next season.

A.S. Roma  versus Genoa

Saturday 5th April 18.00 hours

Because A.S. Roma plays against Manchester United in Champions League the match takes place on Saturday 18.00 hours, just like the first match between the two teams this season. In November the yellowred from Rome booked an undeserved victory in Luigi Ferraris by a goal in the last minute of Christian Panucci (ex-Genoa) out of a corner, while Matteo Paro hit the post with a fantastic shot from 20 meters. Unfortunately Genoa misses both Omar Milanetto and his natural substitute Matteo Paro, but Domenico Criscito is healthy again.

Genoa  versus Reggina

Sunday 30th March 15.00 hours

A victory against Reggina makes it sure that Genoa also next year plays in Serie A. Before the season this was the target to Mr. Gasperini and his players and probably we reach it already 7 matches before the end. In the first match this season against Reggina our red and blue boys did not play very well and we lost by 2-0. Time to have revanche in this 100th match in Serie A of our captain Marco Rossi.

Palermo  versus Genoa

Saturday 22nd March 15.00 hours  

Against Inter the Gasperini-boys played one of the best matches so far this season. This gives hope and trust that we can also return out of Palermo with at least 1 point. The homematch at the 4th of November was very spectacular with 6 goals (3-3), 2 of Leon and the other one by, of course, Borriello.

Genoa  versus Inter 

Wednesday 19th march 20.30 hours

After 3 defeats in a row it is not nice to play against the leader in Serie A that only lost 1 leaguematch so far this season. After Liverpool kicked Inter out of Champions League the blue and black boys have only 1 mission: stay Champions of Italy. Without Borriello in the line-up (sligthly injured and tired) it will be hard, but Mr. Gasperini wants and tries to play always offensive, so also against Inter.

Fiorentina  versus Genoa   

Sunday 16th March 15.00 hours 

Fiorentina is a team that sometimes plays fantastic (2 weeks ago they beat Juventus in Torino by 2-3) and other times bad (last week 1-0 defeat in Siena). We have to hope that the viola’s still are a little tired of the 120 minutes + penalties against Everton last Wednesday and that Adrian Mutu is not ready to play yet. Mr. Gasperini again can bring Juric in the team and we have to hope that also Milanetto is healthy enough to play. Maybe also the 2 players that are changed for 6 months between the two teams Papa Waigo and Vanden Borre get some time to play.

Genoa  versus Juventus 

Sunday 9th March 20.30 hours

After the unclucky defeat against Cagliari the next opponent is Juventus, the biggest team of Italy on the way back to the top. Genoa misses a lot of important players: Rubinho, Bovo, Santos, Paro and Juric, while the black and white only have to miss Pavel Nedved who got twice a red card in the last 3 games against Genoa. The last 3 weeks the zebra’s earned only 1 point at home against Torino, while they lost the matches against Reggina and Fiorentina (2-3 last week, with a great goal of “our” Papa Waigo). Another defeat means a crisis with the Old Lady and that’s all we hope !

Cagliari  versus Genoa  

Sunday 2nd March 15.00 hours

After the great victories against Udinese and Napoli now Genoa must play against number last is the standings Cagliari. Unless the position of Cagliari it will be a difficult match because Genoa misses important players like Konko, Paro, Bovo and Santos. Also the fact that Cagliari got a punishment of 3 points last Friday maybe brings a very agressive opponent in the field. 

Genoa  versus Napoli

Wednesday 27th February 20.30 hours 

Only 3 days after the historical victory in Udine, Genoa plays against the friends of the South: Napoli. Both teams promoted together last year in the famous match of 10th June 2007. Just as in the homematch Scarpi defends the Genoa-goal and let’s hope that also this time we win the match.

Udinese  versus Genoa     

Sunday 24th February 15.00 hours 

The first match between the two teams was one of the most attractive in Serie A this season. Because of the 3 goals of Borriello Genoa was the winner: 3-2. Also this time we can expect a spectacular match, because both coaches play the offensive 3-4-3 systems. After the defeat in the derby a victory in Friuli will be great!

Genoa  versus Sampdoria  

Sunday 17th February 15.00 hours

After the 0-0 draw in the first derby, we hope this time to see goals, Genoa-goals of course. Mr. Gasperini has luxuriously problems with the strikers because he can besides Borriello play with Figueroa, Leon and Di Vaio. Maybe even more important than the result is the wish that it will be a peaceful derby. The fight 5 hours before the last derby was the first one in 15 years, let hope that the next one last al least another 15 years.

Livorno  versus Genoa

Sunday 10th February 15.00 hours 

Last week Mr. Gasperini had a lot of problems with injured and banned players. Against Livorno only Wilson can not play because of an injury, so Mr. Gasperini took all the 22 available players with him to Livorno. We have to see which 4 players have to watch the match in the stadium and if mr. Gasperini  again starts with 2 strikers including Figueroa or that he use his own favorite 3-4-3 system with the return of Leon.

Genoa  versus Catania 

Sunday 3rd February 15.00 hours

A victory is very important against Catania. The team of Sicily has 2 points less in the standings and is at home much stronger than far away from the Etna. Mister Gasperini has only 16 of his 22 regular players available because Genoa surely misses: Rubinho and Milanetto (banned), injured: Leon, De Rosa and Masiero, while the transferdocuments of Wilson still not arrived from Brasil. Maybe all the problems can lead to the first minutes of Anthony Vanden Borre in the Rossoblu shirt.

A.C. Milan  versus Genoa

Sunday 27th January 15.00 hours

At the moment Genoa has 25 points and Worldchampions Milan 24, if at the end of the match Genoa still has more points we can be satisfied. The last victory of Genoa in San Siro against Milan was in 1958, so it will be difficult to win again without supporters (Genoa-fans are banned for this match) and 4 defenders: Criscito (squalified), Masiello (sold to Bari), Bega and De Rosa (both injured).

Genoa  versus Atalanta Bergamo

Already the 3rd time this season Genoa has to play at home the opening-match of the weekend. After Roma and Parma this time against Atalanta Bergamo. Both teams have 22 points, only Atalanta still has to play their homematch against Milan. Genoa surely misses injured Leon, while it is dubious if Danilo, Juric and Sculli can play. Maybe this is the right time to put both Borriello and Figueroa in the line-up because our South-American arrival Wilson is not able to play this weekend because the transferdocuments did not arrive yet.

Lazio  versus Genoa

Sunday 13th January 15.00 hours

After 17 matches Genoa has 19 points in the standings and Lazio 18, so we can say that we are already happy at the moment we only draw in Stadio Olimpico against the team that played in Champions League this season. Domenico Criscito returns after 6 months Juventus in the defense of Genoa, while Mr. Gasperini left Coppola and Di Vaio at home in Genova.

Saturday 22nd December 18.00 hours

Genoa against the friends of Sampdoria and one of the concurrents against relegation. After 9 matches without a victory (4 draws, 5 defeats) Genoa needs to win to give the fans a merry christmas. Genoa surely misses banned Bovo (4th yellow card against Empoli) and injured Danilo. Probably this is finally the match of the dreamtrio: Leon, Borriello and Figueroa.

After the horrible match against Siena our Gasperini-boys must show that they are too good to be in the relegation-zone of Serie A. Everybody expects for the first time the dreamcouple Borriello-Figueroa in the line-up of Genoa.

Sunday 9th December 15.00 hours

 

A match that Genoa must win to move away further from the relegation-zone. With Siena play 3 ex-Genoa players: defender Portanova, midfielder Codrea (Romanian international) and forward Forestieri (one of the biggest talents in the world, who is hired by Genoa to Siena this season). Genoa surely misses defender Bega because he is banned (4th yellow card) and injured Danilo (operated this week).

Torino  versus Genoa

Sunday 2nd December 20.30 hours

After only 2 points in the last 6 matches, we finally play against a team that is more or less of our level. Both teams have 14 points and have to miss a lot of players in midfield because of yellow-cards. As we all know the fans of Torino and Genoa are very strong friends, but Lega Calcio decided last week that Genoa-fans are not welcome in Torino. Very strange because 1 month ago over 2.000 Genoa-fans visited the same stadium to see Juventus-Genoa and nothing happened. People that like to have power sometimes (?) make strange decissions.

Genoa  versus Roma

Saturday 24th November 18.00 hours 

 

Again a match against one of the topteams in Serie A. Unless the fact that it is forbidden to Roma-fans to visit the match, maybe some giallorosso fans can enter Luigi Ferraris stadium as a symbol of friendship of Genoa-ultras. With Genoa topscorer Marco Borriello returns in the team, while the presentation of Francesco Totti in the Roma-team not is sure yet. The first match of Genoa Club Amsterdam ended with a 2-0 victory and the fifth place in the standings, and now ….

Reggina  versus Genoa

Sunday 11th November 15.00 hours

This is the match of the return of Leon (and also Scarpi, De Rosa, Lucarelli and Borriello) in Reggio Calabria, which is deep in the south of Italy in the point of the shoe. Genoa surely misses 2 forwards: banned Marco Borriello (4 yellow cards) and Papa Waigo (injured). Let’s hope Leon, Di Vaio and Figueroa/Sculli let us forget them in this last match before the stop because of the national teams.

After the expected 3 difficult matches against Juventus, Fiorentina and Inter we now have a match against a team with only 1 point more in the standings. A good opportunity to arrive again in Zone Uefa. It sure will be the return of Giovanni Tedesco in Luigi Ferraris, one of the best and most friendly players of the last years.

On the paper Genoa is without any chance against maybe the best team in Europe at the moment, but as usual we play to win the match, also in Giuseppe Meazza. Genoa misses only Dos Santos and Papa Waigo (both injured) and gets the support of 4.000 fans.

Sunday 28th October 20.30 hours

Genoa surely misses banned Alessandro Lucarelli and the infortunate Dos Santos and Papa Waigo (both operated this week) aginst the purple team of the Ponte Vecchio. Our topscorer Marco Borriello has to be careful because a yellow card means he has to miss the match against Inter next Wednesday in Giuseppe Meazza.

Juventus  versus Genoa  

Sunday 21st October 20.30 hours

Last year the topmatch in Serie B, now the topmatch in Serie A between numbers 2 and 5 in the standings. Last year Genoa lost by 3-1 after an annulated absolutely correct opening-goal of Mirco Gasparetto. Let’s hope this year we have a fair referee and just like The Old Lady 50% chance to win the match.

Our first match in Serie A. On Saturday we hope to hand over our yearly trophy to Mr. Gasperini our fantastic coach with offensive Dutch minds. Another victory brings Genoa in Uefa-cup zone, the competition in which we discovered this fantastic club 15 years ago.

Napoli  versus Genoa

Sunday 30th September 15.00 hours

Last year this was the topmatch in Serie B, but also this year in Serie A both teams are doing very well. Napoli already booked 3 victories and 1 draw and is on the third place in the league-tables only 1 point behind the leaders Roma and Inter. Genoa is on the 9th position with 6 points after 1 victory, 3 draws and 1 defeat (against Milan). Unfortunately there are no supporters welcome in the stadium, because of problems during Napoli-Livorno last wednesday.

Genoa   versus Udinese

Wednesday 26th September 20.30 hours

After 4 matches we need to celebrate our first victory in Serie A. Udinese is the most strange team in Serie A so far this season. In Udine they lost against Napoli by 0-5 and one week later the Friuli-team did win in Torino against Juventus: 0-1. Their best player so far this season is striker Antonio di Natale who scored 3 times in the last 2 matches of Udinese and also scored twice for Italy against Ucraine.

Mr. Gasperini selected 21 players. Gaetano “the wall” de Rosa and Ivan Juric are back in the team, while Andrea Masiello and Luciano Figueroa are not able yet to play against Udinese.

Sampdoria  versus Genoa

Sunday 23rd September 20.30 hours

The first and most peaceful of the 4 city-derby’s in Serie A this season. We do not have good memories thinking about the last derby’s in Serie B, but now we are back in Serie A we can show everybody which team is really the strongest in the city. Genoa already did win the season-ticket derby, now we also have to beat them inside the field. For sure Ivan Juric (banned because of red card against Livorno) and Andrea Masiello (injured) don’t play in this derby.

 Pato Aguilera and Tomas Skuhravy are present at Genoa-Livorno 

During the 2 weeks since te match in Catania 3 players of Genoa recuperated from their injury: Bovo, Coppola and Borriello. Unfortunately Gaetano de Rosa now is injured, so probably Cesare Bovo has to start immediately in the line-up against Livorno that lost the first 2 matches against Juventus (5-1) and Palermo (4-2). There are a few doubts about the line-up of Genoa, but normally Mr. Gasperini starts with:

In the weekend of 8 and 9 September there is no league-football because of qualification matches for Euro 2008. Time for our 4 injured players: Bovo, Masiello, Coppola and Borriello to get healthy for the match against Livorno.

Catania  versus  Genoa

Sunday 2nd September 15.00 hours

For the first time exactly 7 months after the match Catania-Palermo the Etna-team can play again in its own stadium. One week after the first match against Milan after the killing of Spagnolo, now the first time in Catania after the killing of police-officer Filippo Raciti. Let’s hope it will be as peacefull as the match Genoa-Milan with the same result: a 0-3 victory for the visitors. 

Saturday-morning the team of Genoa flew with 18 players to Sicilie. Because of injury: defenders Bovo and Masiello, midfielder Coppola and forward Borriello stayed in Genova. In front of 200 supporters the team will be different at least at 3 positions comparing with the match of last week against Milan. Central-forward Gasparetto is sold to Chievo Verona and central-defender Gaetano de Rosa for sure substitutes Dos Santos. Also Marco Rossi is expected in the line-up.

Genoa  versus A.C. Milan 

Sunday 26th August 15.00 hours

The season starts with the match against European champions A.C. Milan. In the past the fans of Milan and Genoa used to be friends, but after the killing of Genoa-supporter Claudio Vincenzo Spagnolo at Sunday 29th January 1995 just before the last match in Genova between the 2 teams of course the friendship is over. Because of a probabile revenge of Genoa-fans the Milan-supporters are not allowed to visit the match next Sunday.

Trainer Gasperini can for sure not play with defenders Andrea Masiello and Cesare Bovo (both injured), while midfield-player Manuel Coppola is squalified. Probably also central forwards Marco Borriello and Luciano Figueroa can not play against the red and black from Milano.
