Westerners sometimes have misconceptions concerning this large and different continent, that will be partly because of lack of detailed media protection of the region’s individuals. 13-04-2014 TORINO - CAMPIONATO SERIE A TIM 2013 2014 TORINO GENOA

Gilardino scores the openinggoal in the 86th minute: 0-1

Again a defeat for our Genoa after a good match. After 90 minutes the Gasp-boys were still in the lead by 0-1 after a goal of Gilardino (his 14th). In the 92nd minute Immobile scored the equalizer, which was the most honest result for this match. Everybody happy with a draw ? Not Alessio Cerci because with a great goal in the 7 of the goal behind Mattia Perin he scored 2-1 in the 94th and last minute of the match. Genoa already lost 7 points in injurytime this season against Cagliari (2-1 Sau in the 92nd minute), Atalanta (1-1 De Luca in the 94th minute), Chievo (2-1, Paloschi  in the 93rd minute) and now Torino (2-1 by goals of Immobile in the 92nd and Cerci in the 94th minute). Saturday we can have revanche for the lost match against Cagliari with the unbelievable red card of referee Giacomelli to Thomas Manfredini. We need 1 point to be 100% sure of another year in Serie A. Forza Genoa!

Marco Motta scores his first goal in front of Gradinata Nord

Just as the match against Juventus the Gasp-boys played very good, deserved at least a draw but finished the match with a defeat. With Fetfatzidis and Burdisso back in the line-up we started very passioned and aggressive against Milan. The openinggoal however was scored by Taarabt after a great run from the midfield, the only shot of Milan on the goal of Mattia Perin in the first half. After the goal Genoa became even more stronger but did not succeed in scoring the equalizer. In the 56th minute a counter of Milan gave Honda the chance to double the score, which happened because Sculli couldn’t touch the ball out of the goal: 0-2. With Centurion in the team Genoa played even more offensive (cornerscore: 8-1 to Genoa) and Marco Motta scored 1-2 with a great shot in the 73rd minute. A few minutes later again Motta and Fetfatzidis were close to the equalizer but we did not get what we deserved also because referee Banti helped the big team of Milan a little to whistle every time Balotelli felt down for nothing and to give only 4 minutes of injurytime while it should be at least 7.

Hellas Verona FC v Genoa CFC - Serie A

the red card of Albertazzi was the deciding moment that helped Verona with a victory

After the last good matches against Juventus, Parma and Lazio we again had to visit Stadio Bentegodi. The match against Chievo in the same stadium was one of the most bad of Genoa this season, now we had to play against the best team of Verona this season: Hellas. The yellowblue played a very good first half of the season, but the last months they go down in the standings. Till the 44th minute both teams were equal and the score was 1-0  by a goal of Donadel in the 34th minute. In the 44th minute Verona-defender Albertazzi got his second yellow card because of a foul against Sculli and had to leave the pitch. In the 2nd half Gasperini brought Calaiò, Fetfatzidis and Konaté in the team while defender De Maio ws also send to the central-forward position. With 7 strikers (!) and the ball all time on the half of Verona we did not create one good chance to score because the penaltyarea of Verona was every time too crowded. In the 87th minute Genoa lost the ball in midfield and Iturbe and Toni could run together towards Mattia Perin and good-old Toni scored. Three minutes later the same thing happened against the total disorganized Genoa-team: 3-0, again by Luca Toni.  An unnecessary defeat with 11 against 10. Next Monday we play at home against A.C. Milan.

Serie A/Genoa-Lazio

Thanks to goals of Gilardino (65th minute) and Fetfatzidis (84th minute) Genoa beat Lazio and now has 39 points in the standings. Eight matches before the end of the season the remaining in Serie A is already 99% sure. A great succes after the bad start of the season, thanks to the players but first of all we have to thank Mr. Gian Piero Gasperini our friendly coach. In the last 8 matches we have to try to end the season inbetween the first 10 teams in the standing and to be in front of Sampdoria. Reaching the Europa League is almost impossible and the distance between Genoa and the relegation-zone is now 15 points. Let’s hope our players stay competitive till the end of the season.

Unless the semi turn-over of Mr. Gasperini (he kept Gilardino, Sculli and Bertolacci outside the line-up) the Rossoblu again played a good match. After 21 minutes Cofie scored the opening-goal after a great action of Konaté. The happiness lasted only 10 minutes when Schelotto scored the equalizer: 1-1. In the 2nd half Emanuele Calaiò was close to score 1-2, but his header was just a few centimeters at the wrong side of the post. In the last minutes of the match Parma tried to score the winning goal, but 2 good saves of Mattia Perin let us return to Genova with a deserved draw. The only negative aspects of this match: the heavy injury of Matuzalem who will not be able to play for the next 5 weeks and the yellow card of De Maio which costs him 1 match squalification but surely he will be substituted next Wednesday against Lazio by Daniele Portanova.

Serie A/Genoa-Juventus

Buffon stops the penalty of  Calaiò

Maybe this was the best match of Genoa so far this season. If Calaiò would have scored the penalty we probably had beaten the Gobbi. Genoa played very agressive with Antonelli, Bertolacci, Burdisso, Matuzalem and Sculli back in the line-up in a 3-5-2 system with a very strong midfield. In the first half 2 goals of Juventus were annulated because of off-side, the first one regulary but the 2nd not. On the other hand Genoa deserved a penalty when Lichtsteiner blocked Bertolacci, but referee Mazzoleni did not react, halftime 0-0. In the 2nd half Genoa was the best team in the field. Mattia Perin was unemployed for a very long period and in the 72nd minute Genoa got a penalty after a handball of Vidal who was lucky that Mazzoleni did not give him his second yellow card. Unfortunately our penaltyscorer Gilardino was substituted 8 minutes before, so his substitute Emanuele Calaiò took the penalty. The shot was too soft and not far in the corner of the goal, so it could be easily stopped by Buffon. In the 89th minute Mazzoleni whistled irregularly for a free-kick against Sturaro just outside the penaltyarea of Genoa. Specialist Andrea Pirlo shot the free-kick high in the 7 of the goal without giving Perin any chance. Genoa-Juve 0-1, sometimes football is so unfair!
